I needed a quilt in a hurry for a friend who was having a hard time. The disappearing nine patch is a fun quilt that can be put together quickly, still has a “wow” factor, and fit the bill perfectly.
I used 5″ squares to make each of the nine patch blocks in a mixture of blues and greens. I decided on a black background to make the colors really stand out.
I didn’t take any photos of the construction process because I was focused on getting this quilt finished quickly.
The challenge with scrappy quilts is getting a balance of color. It took some rearranging for me to be happy with this one.

(Someday, I hope to have a design wall that will hold all of the blocks for a king size quilt.)

I like to take a picture of my quilts to see if there’s anything I would change. Sometimes I notice things in a photo that I don’t see while standing over the quilt.
For the quilting, I chose a simple diagonal design and used black thread. I wanted the quilting to support the design without taking attention away from the colors.

This was a fun quilt to make, and I hope it brought a little brightness to someone who needed it.
